Jar of Questions - Part 16

Tell a courtship story about your parents and how they met?
I really don't know how they met! But I would emagine that sence they lived across the road you might say and went to the same school (Alma School) they were bound to get acquainted. With swimming in the open ditches in the summer and going to the same church and ward building, going to dances, going for buggy rides + things like that - sounds like fun doesn't it. My mother's people (the Johnsons) came here in about 1883 and settled on land from Extension to Alma Sch. Road. 80 acers and Papa people came in the early 1900 and settled on 40 acres from Extension to Westwood. Papa had 20 acres + Warren had 20 acres. The road from Mesa to Tempe was called Transmission Rd and then later W. 4th Street and then University Dr. That separated the property Mom + Pop grew up on - Im sure they had a great + happy courtship.

Describe getting a Christmas tree with my family as a child. How did we decorate it and where did we put it?
I really don't remember where we got the trees but we always had a tree of some sort and as a child there was something always there in the living room in the corner, Im sure at times it was nothing but a limb. At times one brought down by Elvin or tore from the mountains or one discarded from the schools or one of the stores up town and Im sure some of them was bought as cheaply as possible. The decorations was always the same ones year after years and we thought they were beautiful. The iceing was always saved and used over and over, year after year. We did not use lights or candles. We had no electricity and the candles was 2 dangerous. We each put a shoe box under the tree to get a orange + a apple and some candy. And we would receive one or 2 presents. I remember receiving a little green tractor and Papa made a trailer out of a old license plate and 4 Scott wheels to pull behind it and we really enjoyed playing with that - Heber got a tractor also. We just didn't get very much but we really did appreciate what we got.

What invention could I not live without?
I think the one thing I would have a hard time getting along without would be a fire in a controled state - I really appreciation fire for heat in the winter. I do not like the cold. I worry about being cold on camping trips. And I like my food cooked well done. God gave us fire and I think Him for that. He invented that so we could help ourselfs.

What personality traits do I admire most.
A smile most of all. A good disposition. A personality that they get along with everyone. Helpful, courties, kind, thoughtful, a strong spirited + obedient person, clean most of the time. Just a fun person to be with, a good worker who helps get things done, can laugh at things if they go wrong, and then go on and won't find things wrong with everyone.

If I were a animal, which would you (I) choose to be?
(A dog) After having some of our dogs I look at them as almost human. Yeager, Smokey
They were smart and very helpfull at times and some got to go where we went. They all had there freedom to go and come as they wanted and were very good at there job of being a watch dog for the house + garage and were helpfull with the kids and I think they understood what we said + talked about.
(If anyone has a picture of Smokey, I would love to add one here.)

What do I feel has been the most significant world even that has happened during my life time?
The priesthood was given to the Black people. I just didn't think it was fair that they couldn't have it after so many years. I'm happy that the worthie Black brothers can have the priesthood now.
