Jar of Questions - Part 10
Wayne gets his dream job. First week in Aug. 1998.
Well guess what. Wayne got his long awaited call to join a fire dept and he will start as captain with the Guadalupe Fire Dept. He has been waiting so long - and wanting the job so long, it seems like at least 10 years at least. He been going to the different school class's so his chances was better. He been working part time on weekends with the Guadalupe + Gilbert Fire Depts and some nights thru the weeks and also with the search + rescue group where they would fly them in helicopters to find lost people in the Superstition Mts + other areas. Most they found alive but some was dead. But we hope he's happy now that he's finally got his new job. I'd always hoped he would take over the garage along with John but he let us know he just didn't like the garage and wanted to be a fireman. So now its just John + I at the garage along with 4 mechanics - but its going OK. I still hope John will take it over soon and buy me out so I can retire since I will be 68 yrs old next month on the 24th of Sept. Maybe in 2 yrs I hope. Johns not married yet and he remodeling his house that he bought from Cal Milyard who remarried after my cousin Elizabeth who was married to Cal died. Or I should say Johns rebuilding his home. Adding on extra bed rooms + other rooms. He will have a nice big home - with a big yard. But enyway we're happy for Wayne and hope he's finding happiness. I just seems comical that Ive been paying him for so long to take time off to go and tryout and find another job. But yes, we will miss him.
Our Vacation - Aug 1998
Due to Wayne being called to be on the Guadalupe Fire Dept we had 2 weeks to get our vacations in. So the last week of July John took a week off work and worked on hi house even though it was very hot. Then we (Joan and I) took off the first weeks in August and came up here to Keels Spring camp ground with the motor home and also pulled the bronco so we could ride around and look at the deer + elk. We came up on Tuesday and made camp and really enjoyed the peace + quietness. Donna drove up in her car on Friday for the day with Blake, Alicia + Carl. We tried to get them to stay longer but she wanted to get home to her new house they had just moved into. But they stayed until about 9 P.M. before heading home in there little Toyota. It was funny when they came in the morning. We was in the motor home and we heard a car comeing and as we looked I said, look at those 2 kids riding along setting in the windows of the car. I hope they don't fallout. And then they turned in and I said it's Donna. But they were hanging on they said - they were having fun. Jamey and Brandon with Preston + 2 other little boys she was baby setting also came in and surprised us on Friday. We expected them Say. So we helped them set up a tent and get sleeping bags. So we had a nice group for the camp fire Friday night. The 2 little boys Jamey brought up cried part of the night and kept them up so they home Sat. morning with Jamey saying I'm not going to ever have more kids when I get married, I've had enough of kids after last night. I said we will see, we will see. Also David + Pattie came up Friday evening along with Nathan, Elizabeth, Aaron, Dylan, Dustin + Austin in there motor home. Nathan drove there suburban + pulled there trailer with 2 A.T.C and there 2 tents in it. They got to ride the A.T. Cs for a while before the ranger came by and said they couldn't them sence they weren't licensed and they had to have goggles + helmets and also they had to be in or on the trailer while in the camp grounds so that ended there A.T.C riding. So they went to the tower and Sunday they went down to the creek and went swimming. I went down to take pictures of them and saw 2 deer and 12 elk on the way. Sunday afternoon we took pictures of Aaron jumping over a log and we walked down the meadow a ways with David + Patties kids. They left for home about 9:00 PM with the kids + motor home. Nathan had gone home earlier with the suburban + trailer. Joan + I stayed Sunday evening + night and we went home Monday morning. Got home about 1:30, unloaded the cold food, took a shower, and had a nap and then back to work. And so ended our vacation for 1998. And this was the year I said I was going to be gone 3 months up where it was cool - but you how the best laid plans of mice and men are - they just don't work out. But it was a busy, good summer enyway. I guess?
